How To Backup Your Precious Website Data And Protect Your Online Business

What happens when your web host has a failure and your account gets damaged or worse case scenario, the web host loses everything?

Do you run away screaming, or get angry with your web hosting company because you didn’t have any website backups? It’s a very common problem, which is so unfortunate, since it’s avoidable with a bit of knowledge and action on your part.

You should not rely on your web host to take backups for you? Unless you expressly pay them to do so, and even then I wouldn’t count on them being there for you. You can only trust what you take action on.

Check the fine print of most web hosts terms of service and they will state that they are not responsible for your data, even if it’s their fault. Great isn’t it.

So what’s the solution. Simple. Backup your data regularly.

cPanel control panels for your web hosting are the most widespread among web hosting companies. So let me tell you how to backup your websites on cPanel web servers, it’s quite labour intensive, but well worth it.

a) Go to your domain dot com:2082 or domain dot com/cpanel and enter in your login credentials. (replace domain dot com with your website of course)
b) Go to the Backup icon (will look different depending on your cPanel theme)
c) Click on the link to download the home directory backup (this will take all your files, including stored emailed)
d) Click on the individual links to download your databases
e) Click on the individual links to download your email filters or email aliases

Don’t worry about taking the full backup since that’s mostly helpful for hosting providers, the home directory backup is much better for restoration purposes.

Now do that once a week or month for your home directory (files) and everyday for your databases like WordPress, Forums, Shopping Carts, Email Lists.

You want to take a backup of your databases everyday since they change regularly, especially now with the widespread use of blogging software such as WordPress. Your content is entered online, and if you don’t backup then you have no local copies of your content.

Once you download your website make sure to keep it on your harddrive in a centra
1000
l spot that you are going to remember where you put it should you need to recover.

Keep at least 3 versions of your backups in dated sub directories so that you can recover from earlier backups in case any of them were corrupt or contain any broken files or databases.

To recover and restore your website backup you simply reverse the process. In the cPanel control panel, under the Backup icon, you can upload your backup file or database file and restore it.

If that all seems like to much work, to remember to backup your websites, and actually go through and download everything, across multiple websites (if you have more than one), you are right. It’s a massive job, which is why hardly anyone does it.

That’s where software comes in, to automate these mundane tasks. Fortunately there are a couple of good applications for downloading a website backup on a regular schedule.

15 Tips To Bring More Traffic To Your Blog

There are many factors that make blogs much better than normal WebPages including the speed at which blogs are indexed, ability to submit to blog directories & normal directories, pings and track backs. All these little things can help drive more traffic to blogs. Here are 15 popular techniques you can use:

1. Create at least four keyword posts per day. Most of the top blogs such as Boing Boing, Daily Kos, and Instapundit (with literally tens of thousands of visitors per day) publish an average of 30 small 100-150 word posts per day according to “Secrets of the A-list Bloggers: Lots of Short Posts” by TNL.net

2. Submit to My Yahoo! When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo it is indexed by Yahoo.

3. Submit to Google’s Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS to Google’s Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site.

4. Add a relevant link directory to your blog and trade links like a demon possessed! Although it may take more time than simply submitting to a search engine one time, this method is perhaps the best way to drive traffic to your site. Use software such as Zeus to speed up the link trading process.

5. Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time you add a new post.

6. Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as AltaVista, and MSN.

7. Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ. Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

8. Submit to as many RSS Directories and Search Engines as possible. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be done with software such as RSS SUBMIT.

9. Comment on other blogs. Do not just leave short, lazy comments like “I agree.” Leave well thought out replies that will force readers to wonder “who wrote this?”

10. Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few interested readers from the linked site.

11. Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards, business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible know your blog exists.

12. Add a link to your blog in y

our e-mail signature block.

13. Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure to use your blog URL like it is your name.

14. Use Forums. Forums are one of the best places to go for advice. Go to forums and find problems to solve. Make sure you leave your blog name, but be tactful about it; some forums get annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own site and leave.

15. Tag your website. Tagging is a new idea that has erupted across the web. Sites like Del.icio.us, Technorati and many others have a social feature that allows you to place your article under keywords or “tags” that everyone interested in that tag can see.

Utilizing A WordPress Plugin: How To Optimize Your Blog For Maximum Traffic

WordPress is definitely one of the most widely used blogging platforms on the internet. It gives room for a lot of customization while maintaining a stable platform. Many blogs on the internet, particularly network marketing blogs, utilize WordPress. However, not everyone is knowledgeable in HTML and other coding languages. Installing a WordPress plugin and learning how to use it makes blogging more enjoyable and time efficient.

One way of installing a WordPress plugin is to use an FTP client application. This allows you to connect to your hosting server and upload files into your WordPress directory. It is definitely an easy way to drag and drop files from your computer into your server and save a lot of time. The only thing you have to worry about is finding out your server information so you can actually connect and upload/download files.

Another way to install a plugin is to go into your WordPress dashboard and scroll down to the plugin section. Click on “Add new” and search for any particular plugin you’d like to install. Using the dashboard method is very user friendly and makes it easy for the technically challenged to click install and activate plugin.

There are countless of plugins available in WordPress so what plugins are necessary to maintain a healthy blog? I want to share 3 plugins I use and deem necessary for every WordPress blog. After listing these plugins, I feel everything is left to preference. What kind of environment do you want to provide for your readers? How do you want them to interact with your blog posts and with each other?

The first plugin I feel is necessary is the All In One SEO plugin. Search engine optimization is incredibly important when building a blog, because that is where all of your free traffic is going to come from. If you don’t optimize your blog to pull in traffic using certain keywords, there is no chance for your content to get a decent number of views. This plugin is very user friendly providing spaces for your title, description and keywords to be placed into your blog.

The second necessary plugin is Google XML. This plugin creates a file that presents your blog to Google in a descriptive manner. It maps all of your content so Go
1000
ogle can associate your content with the proper keywords. Every time you update your content, this plugin informs all the search engines and they begin to crawl your site and update their respective databases.

The last WordPress plugin is Digg Digg. I really like this plugin because it opens all of your posts to the possibility of being shared on different social networks. It provides buttons for Digg, Twitter, Facebook and other social bookmarking sites. These buttons can be arranged in different areas around your blog post and catches your readers’ eyes. If they enjoyed the post, they can simply click the button and share it with all of their friends. This is an incredibly powerful plugin if you really want to get your blog exposed and create a lot of buzz.
