A good starting point would be Google’s Adsense. Google reviews your site and its textual content and works out which of it’s adverts are most suitable for your page content. By peforming this it hope to provide advertisements that are most likely to be related to your blog’s readers. Your account then makes money because your visitors click on these adverts to view advertisers – with the majority of these clicks earning you money. What you can potentially earn is determined from how many clicks your adverts are getting and what subject your website concentrates on. Certain subjects earn a lot more per click than other subjects.
Another popular system is Amazon. With this system you can promote specific items from within their catalogue or you let their system show their selection of products from your selected keyword. You just choose a keyword and they give the books (or other ranges, if you prefer) that are relevant to that keyword. On a blog this may result in just using one keyword to cover the whole blog, but that shouldn’t be an issue. You can also include more specific links on individual posts. Here you are earning cash each time a new visitor clicks on to the Amazon website and then goes on to buy a book.
ClickBank is another popular option, this time selling electronic downloaded books. As with Amazon you can display individual e-books or make use of a frame that shows all e-books that match to a keyword. Again, you are making an income for each purchase made following a click on your blog.
Larger affiliate schemes are a possibility, but I included the above three schemes as they offer something that most of the others don’t make available – they aren’t geographically dependent. Most affiliate schemes are only interested in traffic from their own country, as providing services in another country causes headaches. Google gets around this by displaying adverts only related to the country the visitor is in, whilst ClickBank can happily sell to most countries, as it is delivering the items electronically. But if you are very specific and not seeing much traffic from abroad, then there are obviously a whole choice of affiliate schemes for you to belong to and take part in.
